Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it. We do not sell your personal information.

1. Who is responsible for your data

Kyn Family Technologies Inc., incorporated in Ontario, Canada, is the data controller for personal information collected through the Kyn app. If you have questions about how we handle your data, write to us at hello@kyn.app.

This policy is written in compliance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

2. What information we collect

Email address To create and manage your account, send magic link sign-ins, and contact you about your subscription
Conversation history To give Willow context so she can be helpful across multiple sessions — so you don't have to repeat yourself
Onboarding answers Your baby's approximate age, what you're looking for support with, and your level of personal support at home — so Willow can give you relevant, personalised guidance
Timezone So Willow understands what time of day it is for you — important for overnight context
Subscription status To manage your access to Kyn and process payments through Stripe
Anonymous usage data Page views and basic analytics via Plausible — privacy-first, no cookies, no personal data shared

We do not collect your location, device identifiers, browsing history, or any information beyond what is listed above.

3. How we use your information

We use your information only for the following purposes:

  • Providing and improving the Kyn service
  • Giving Willow context to support you across conversations
  • Managing your account and subscription
  • Sending you account-related emails (sign-in links, billing notices)
  • Understanding how the app is used at an aggregate level so we can improve it

We do not use your conversations to train AI models. We do not use your information for advertising. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

4. Who we share your information with

We share your information only with the service providers we need to run Kyn:

  • Anthropic — the AI model that powers Willow processes your messages to generate responses. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to this processing. We have agreed to data processing terms with Anthropic that prohibit them from using your conversations to train their models.
  • Stripe — handles payment processing. Your card details go directly to Stripe and are never stored by us.
  • Plausible — provides anonymous analytics. No personal data is shared with Plausible.
  • Render — our backend hosting provider. Your data is stored on servers in their infrastructure.

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or to protect the safety of a person.

5. Conversation data and sensitivity

We understand that conversations with Willow may touch on sensitive topics — your mental health, your baby's health, how you are coping. We treat this information with the highest level of care.

  • Your conversations are encrypted in transit
  • Only you can see your conversation history
  • Our team does not read your conversations except where strictly necessary to investigate a safety concern or a technical problem you have reported
  • We retain your conversation history for as long as your account is active. Upon account closure, you may request deletion of your data by writing to hello@kyn.app and we will action it promptly

6. Your rights under PIPEDA

As a Canadian user, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate information
  • Deletion — request that we delete your account and all associated data
  • Withdrawal of consent — you can withdraw consent to our processing of your data at any time, which will result in account closure
  • Complaint — if you believe we have mishandled your information, you have the right to complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada

7. Data storage and security

Your data is stored on servers located in Canada or the United States. We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS).

No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by law.

8. Cookies and analytics

Kyn uses Plausible Analytics — a privacy-first analytics tool that does not use cookies and does not collect personal data. Plausible gives us aggregate information about how many people visit the app and which pages they view. It cannot identify individual users.

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other third-party tracking tools that collect personal data.

9. Children's privacy

Kyn is designed for parents and caregivers aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@kyn.app and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. If the changes materially affect how we use your personal information, we will notify you by email before the changes take effect.
